Olympic Scholarships for Athletes

Objective of the programme

Help elite athletes selected by their respective NOCs to prepare and qualify for the Olympic Games, with a particular focus on athletes and NOCs with the greatest needs.

Procedure for allocating an Olympic scholarship

  1. The NOCs and the National Federations ( NFs ) identify potential candidates for an Olympic scholarship.
  2. The NOC selects the Olympic scholarship candidates and sends the applications to Olympic Solidarity.
  3. Each candidate file is analysed in consultation with the International Federation ( IF ) concerned, which provides a technical analysis.
  4. The final allocation decision is taken by Olympic Solidarity in consultation with the NOC

Advantages of an Olympic scholarship

A monthly grant to contribute to training costs and notably :

  • appropriate training facilities
  • a specialist coach for the relevant discipline
  • regular medical and scientific assistance and check-ups
  • accident and illness insurance
  • full-board accommodation
  • a qualification travel subsidy for participation in Olympic qualification events

Monitoring of the Olympic scholarship holders

  • As soon as they became Olympic scholarship holders, all athletes are subject to ongoing monitoring.
  • Olympic Solidarity establishes a reporting procedure to suit each available training option, enabling the scholarship holders’ performances to be measured regularly and efficient monitoring to be conducted.
  • Participation in the various qualification competitions is an important part of this monitoring.
