Preventing Competition Manipulation

What is Competition Manipulation in Sport?

Competition manipulation happens when athletes or officials engage in dishonest practices to eliminate the uncertainty of a competition.

Athletes might cheat to intentionally lose a competition or a segment of it, which contradicts the essence of the Olympic spirit.

Such actions are typically motivated by the desire to secure a competitive edge (for instance, to encounter a weaker opponent in the second round of a tournament) or to obtain financial gains, particularly associated with sports betting.
