International Olympic Committee

The International Olympic Committee is the guardian of the Olympic Games and the leader of the Olympic Movement. A truly global organisation, it acts as a catalyst for collaboration between all Olympic stakeholders, including the athletes, the National Olympic Committees, the International Federations, Organising Committees for the Olympic Games, the Worldwide Olympic Partners and Olympic broadcast partners. It also collaborates with public and private authorities including the United Nations and other international organisations.  The vision of the International Olympic Committee is to Build a Better World through Sport. 

African National Olympic Committee

ANOCA contributes to developing, fostering and defending the Olympic Movement and its autonomy in Africa, in pursuance of the Olympic Charter. ANOCA serves and promotes the interests of member NOC's in their dealings with third parties, in all matters of general interest in collaboration with the IOC and ANOC.  ANOCA promotes understanding, cooperation and mutual assistance among NOC's of Africa and helps African NOCs in collaboration with the IOC, to promote, develop and defend Olympic ethics, good governance in sport, financial transparency and sustainability in the operations of NOC's throughout the African Continent. 

Commonwealth Games Association

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the organisation responsible for the direction and control of the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games, and for delivering on the vision of the Commonwealth Sports Movement: to build peaceful, sustainable and prosperous communities globally by inspiring Commonwealth Athletes to drive the impact and ambition of all Commonwealth Citizens through Sport. 

World Anti Doping Association

NOCs must ensure that anti-doping policies and rules conform with the Code and International Standards within their respective countries. Should a country’s anti-doping rules not be compliant with the Code and International Standards, consequences, including possible exclusion from the Olympic Games, apply.  In countries where there is no National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO), the NOC assumes the role of the NADO, meaning that the NOC becomes responsible for everything related to doping control (i.e., education, sample collection, whereabouts program, results management, Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs). 

Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture

The Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) is a non-profit organistion governed by the Olympic Charter of the IOC and also serves as the Commonwealth Games Association affiliated to the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF). Its primary purpose is to organise and plan participation of Namibian athletes in Olympic as well as Commonwealth Games. The NNOC work in close cooperation with the Namibia Sports Commission.

The NNOC was founded on 28 May 1990 (little more than two months after Namibia became an independent country) under the guidance and leadership of former President Dr. Sam Nujoma, who is to date still the patron of the organisation.

On 7 June 1990 Namibia was accepted as provisional member of the Commonwealth Games Federation and membership was endorsed that same year at a general assembly. The first application for membership to the IOC was submitted on 19 March 1991. Membership was approved and Namibia became a member of the IOC a few months before the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games.

Seventeen (17) Olympic sport disciplines became members of the NNOC with its inception. Those sport disciplines soon became recognised members of their respective International Federations. The Body currently has 26 members that include sport codes not currently on the Olympic programme but are recognised members of the IOC.

The Mission of the NNOC is to promote Olympism throughout Namibia and lead the Olympic movement in the country.

 The vision of the NNOC is to become the leading National Olympic Committee on the continent by creating a sustainable environment to improve the quality of life of Namibians by embracing the Olympic Ideals and Values.

Friendship: We consider sport as a tool for mutual understanding among individuals in Namibia form all around the world. The genuine, caring connection between two people who not only understand, but want only the very best of all things in life for the other.
