The Namibian National Olympic Committee (NNOC) and Namibia Athletes’ Commission in collaboration with the Athlete365 team from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) hosted a two-day Athlete365Career+ workshop in Windhoek from the 16 to 17 September, 2023.
The workshop was delivered by Athlete365 Career+ Educator Kady Kanouté Tounkara OLY.

27 Athletes from Windhoek, Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, Lüderitz, Oshakati and Outapi attended the workshop, including elite athletes and para-athletes as well as retired Olympians. Regional and national athletes filled up the rest of the group.

On Day 1 of the workshop, athletes were encouraged to ask questions and share their discoveries as they embarked on a journey of self-discovery to learn more about their passions, values, skills and interests throughout the interactive session.

Retired national women's hockey national team captain Maggy Mengo shared how she approached life beyond sport after retiring from Hockey and showcased how she was able to transition into an excellent corporate role.

Day 2 focused on CV writing skills and allowed the athletes to see what is important to focus on when successfully applying for employment and receiving feedback. Athletes also learned how to stand out from other competitors by creating a CV that accentuated their transferable skills.

The workshop was financially supported through the Olympic Solidarity Activity Grant that allow National Athletes Commissions around the world to host events like these to support their athletes on and off the field.

"The workshop let us tap into our potential and taught us how to come up with ways to learn about different sorts of income after sports" - Bradley Murere, National Para-Athlete

"This was the best workshop I have attended so far, I learned a lot. I know my values and I think I know myself better from today on" - Lahja Ishitile - National Para-Athlete

In her remarks to the workshop participants, NNOC Secretary General Ms Joan Smit reaffirmed the NOC's support to athletes and extended her gratitude to the Namibia Athletes Commission for organising the successful event.

The NNOC is extremely proud of the Namibia Athletes Commission's efforts and acknowledges the work of the Athletes Commission Chair Maike Diekmann, Vice Chair Romio Goliath and Member Elmone Rhode who made this event happen.
