“Hacking” the nervous system for optimal movement and sport performance

The NNOC-CGA Coaches Commission hosted a successful workshop on Saturday, 26 November 2022 at the UNAM Medical Campus in Windhoek. The workshop was facilitated by Professor Ben Coetzee and a total of 50 national head coaches, personal coaches of elite athletes and development coaches from 13 different sport codes attended.

The focus of the workshop was to:

-Gain basic knowledge and understanding of the scientific-based physiological principles and mechanisms that  underlie disruptions in somatosensory input due to injuries, stress, anxiety, or any traumatic event.

-Learn basic muscle tests to evaluate the muscle activation patterns of participants.

-Gain basic knowledge and understanding of the scientific-based physiological principles and mechanisms that underlie the use of several hacking techniques for regaining somatosensory input and neuromuscular control.

-Learn and practice several scientific proven “hacking” techniques to fully regain somatosensory input and neuromuscular control so that correct muscle activation patterns can be recaptured.

Professor Ben Coetzee is working as Senior Lecturer in the Department of Human Movement Science, University of North-West, South Africa. His research interests are sports science testing, strength and conditioning, autonomic nervous system monitoring and evaluation, recovery indicators and sport performance determinants.
